I feel like a dork. I’m leaving to go to dental school soon and I really am afraid of what will happen. When I was 17 or so my brother was severely depressed. Rather than cry about it, I would stay up online until about 1am after I knew my mom (who was worried sick about him) had fallen asleep. I learned how cool the internet could be. Since this point, I haven’t stopped. Now I am online nearly every minute I am home. I do other things, jogging, piano, go out with friends…but the minute I step in the door, I’m online. My husband complains but I can’t stop. It has spun out of control. I feel nervous and shaky when I can’t get on. I stay up until 2am reading medical journal articles and looking up information on other things I’m interested in. I pick fights with people online because it gives me a "buzz." What is my problem? How do I end this? I try all the time and I fail!
HA! Get rid of my computer? Because I won’t need that for dental school?

If Africa had ruled Europe, would things be different? I think the answer to that question is yes things most definitely things would be different, however I don’t believe that the answer to that question is the sole purpose of Beverly’s article. I feel that what Beverly is trying to achieve is for non African American’s to not only ask themselves that question but to try to see things from an African American’s point of view. She spins the expression if the shoe was on the other foot into a historical what if context, so to speak. She tries to convey the struggles and obstacles that African Americans have faced and continue to face to date as a result of the colonization of Africa. Beverly gives examples of how much loss African Americans have suffered from minimal practicing of the native language, and how African institutions crumbled as time passed. She shows how so much has been sacrificed, lost, or forgotten, that is as a result of colonization. I think her main point is to get people to see how much of an affect colonization has had on African Americans as a whole and it isn’t just something that is to be forgotten or glossed over, but to be understood and reflected on, not even to be sympathized with. My favorite part of Ms. Hawk’s article is when and how she references ,“White History Month.”
I am sad to say that until reading Ms. Hawks article that I’ve never sat back and reflected on how much colonization has affected myself being an African American. I have studied slavery in school and the civil rights time period and movement, but never considered all of what Beverly references in her article. After reading Ms. Hawks work it makes me realize how the past has shaped my present and future. How it has just not had an affect on myself and my own culture but how it has molded the entire world. It’s brought up so many varying degrees of questions of would people dress differently, behave differently, speak differently if roles were reversed? The answer as I stayed earlier I believe would certainly be yes. I think of how different I would be if the past didn’t happen the way it did. I can’t disagree with the tone or statement Beverly makes with her article. If I wasn’t African American I think I could even understand and appreciate it.

After reading Ms. Hawks essay I can’t think of anything I would change that she has written. I’m sure she is more qualified and well versed in history that I probably ever would. However I would have liked for it to end on a more positive note. Though a lot has happened in our countries past as well as others I think that African American’s have progressed sacrificing a lot more than I ever thought about in the processes. Until reading this it makes me think how far have we really come, if we as African American’s have had to sacrifice so much to get where we are? I would have liked for the article to be a guide to how are we able to get the history, and culture back that we have lost. How can we educate our future generations on who we are, were and where we came from before slavery? How can we hold on to the past and not let it be a burden to carry but a motivation to progress in the world that we live in today. As we all know, unfortunately history can’t be changed but it’s something that can be held on to give a clearer view of the future.

a couple of my friends have played a variation of spin the bottle at heir partys. should i play have it at my upcoming party.

RULES: get in a circle and one person starts and spins the bottle. the person who it lands on has to wear an article of t he oppiosites sex’s clothing (bra, boxers, jeans, dress). the person who spun gets to pick what they wear. it goes around the circle until ur done playin.
